Local Experiences Worth Exploring

Salt Spring Island may be known for its natural beauty, but it’s the creative, community-driven spirit of the island that often leaves the biggest impression. Whether you’re just visiting or considering making Salt Spring home, there’s no shortage of ways to explore, connect, and experience life here.

Here are a few of my favourite ways to spend time on the island—some well-known, others tucked slightly off the beaten path.

Salt Spring Studio Tour: Art in Every Corner

The Salt Spring Studio Tour is a self-guided journey through the island’s rich artistic community. Over 30 studios open their doors to visitors, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. From painters and sculptors to glassblowers, potters, and woodworkers, you’ll find a wide range of styles and mediums—and many artists are happy to chat about their work.

Maps are available online and at the Visitor Centre, making it easy to explore at your own pace. Whether you’re an art collector or just curious, the tour is a great way to see the island through the eyes of its artists.

Farm Stand Tour: Salt Spring’s Unofficial Treasure Hunt

One of Salt Spring’s most charming traditions is the Farm Stand Tour—a loosely organized network of roadside farm stands scattered across the island. These small, often unstaffed stands operate on the honour system and offer everything from fresh eggs and vegetables to cut flowers, preserves, honey, and even handmade soap.

It’s a wonderful way to experience the island’s agricultural roots and support local growers. Keep an eye out as you drive—some stands are easy to spot, while others feel like hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

A Lifestyle You Can Feel

What all of these experiences have in common is a sense of connection—to the land, to the community, and to the creativity that thrives here. They’re not just things to do—they’re windows into what life is like on Salt Spring Island.

If you’re considering a move to the island or just want to learn more about the lifestyle, I’m always happy to share what I know. With deep local roots and decades of real estate experience, I can help you find not just the right property—but the right place to call home.
